Mir

Mir ranks as one of the fastest ships today. She takes part in, and usually wins, numerous regattas and tall ship races.

Toulon Voiles de Légende - Mir

Impressive & fast !

With her unmistakeable white hull with its blue and red stripes, Mir is one of five ships built for the USSR between 1987 and 1990.

This Russian giant of the sea, whose name means "peace” in Russian, measures almost 110 m. She is one of the world’s biggest sailing ships. She was built at the Lenin shipyard in Gdansk, Poland, by a ship-building crew that included Lech Wałęsa, leader of Solidarność (Solidarity) who later became Polish president.

Mir has been a training ship for the Russian merchant navy for over 20 years. She can accommodate up to 144 trainees and requires a crew of forty sailors.

The ship combines tradition and modernity. Her angular hull is divided into two by a bilge and pierced by square portholes. Her rigging has been simplified to facilitate manoeuvres.

Undisputed master of the great regattas

The ship was designed and built as a cadet training ship and to take part in the major international regattas. In addition to learning to sail, budding sailors can also take oceanography and marine science classes.

Mir has many prizes to her name. Victories include the prestigious Tall Ships Races (2004, 2006 and 2008), International Hochsee Race Seestadt and the Grand Regatta Columbus-92. Between races, the ship is available for day cruises.
